Squall is a member of the SeeD. He uses a rare weapon called the GunBlade, which there is only one other in Balamb Garden, Seifer Almasy. Squall is known to be a cold, silent, not caring person which he is fine with. Squall is basically a guy that needs to find himself, and purpose to be alive. He finds that in Rinoa and his friends, caring towards him. Squall can be a jackass sometimes, but deep down inside he cares a lot.

Rinoa is a member of the Timber Resitance Group, "Forest Owls". Rinoa and her group fights against, the Galbadian President, Vinzer Deling. Rinoa is very kind, loving, sweet, understanding, focused person. She will try her best at anything, and will always be willing to lend a hand. Rinoa is very emotional when it comes to things she cares for. She usually trust her first instinct, or gut feeling. She's a leader type, but wants to hear everyones opinions.

Quistis is very admired in Balamb Garden, there is even a name for the group of people that admire her so much, they're called "Trepies". She's the youngest instructor in Balamb. Being only 18 years old, she lacks the sterness needed towards her students, seeings how she's their age also. Quistis can be confused at times with her emotions, not knowing what they're trying to tell her, but she soon figures them out. She has a side of her that doesn't like Rinoa too much, but it changes with time. Quistis is pretty simple and layed out but she can be surprising at times.

Zell's wild engery can get him into trouble at times but he doesn't mean to. He has a great passion for Hot Dogs that are sold in Balamb Garden and always seems to want one. Zell's the master at close-combat fighting. He can seem pretty crazy at times but he also has a very serious side. People in his hometown of Balamb, view Zell as a klutzy hero, instead of a strong yet comic type that he really is.

Selphie grew up in Trabia Garden and recently got moved to Balamb Garden. She's very outgoing and sincere which has earned her lots of new friends at Balamb Garden. Selphie is a hyper active type of person which always wants to keep busy by doing many things. She loves going on trains and adventures. Whenever Selphie is put into an embarassing situation she turns it around and makes everyone laugh.

Irvine is a complex indivdual. He puts up a tough image, a loner that doesn't want to have to deal with anyone but when he's put into serious situations and has pressure on him he loses his cool and usually is lost with frustration and is..well basically scared. He hits on Selphie a lot throughout the game. Irvine soon loses his tough outside and shows his real self as you go into everything more. You eventually see this caring, cunning and clever person.

Laguna gets a great deal of respect and loyalty from the people that are around him. He has a huge heart, and is very energetic. Laguna can be a klutz at times but he doesn't let that set him back. Laguna is a great leader which impresses many that meet him along his journey.

Seifer is Squall's rival and their rivalry gets them into trouble at times. He's the only other person at Balamb Garden that uses a Gunblade. He's known at Balamb Garden as a show off and a snob that likes a lot of attention, either good or bad attention. He loves to have the spot light on him. He's failed the SeeD test a few times but still keeps at it. He's a determind person but needs some guidance.
